As usual, I started out 2025 with ambitions of writing a book review for every book I read. This usually lasts about a month or two before I start getting behind. The fact that I am just now writing about my March 2025 reading and it is already early May is an indication that timely updates are NOT going to happen. Therefore, I’m going to create a list of the books I read during the month, jot down a few notes, and update my reading statistics. That shall be enough!
Updated 2025 Reading Stats
So far in 2025, I have read:
- 23 books
- 9,725 pages
- 19 fiction books
- 4 non-fiction books
March 2025 Reading
Just Another Missing Person
Gillian McAllister
Fiction
400 pagesĀ
I loved this book and could not put it down once I started. (Almost) as good as her other book I read, Wrong Place, Wrong Time. Definitely going to read this author’s back catalog!
The Small and the Mighty: Twelve Unsung Americans Who Changed the Course of History, From the Founding to the Civil Rights Movement
Sharon McMahon
Non-Fiction
304 pages
An interesting read that introduces the reader to people of all walks of life who made a difference with their actions and beliefs. Reader-friendly writing style helps history go down easy!
All the Colors of the Dark
Chris Whitaker
Fiction
608 pages
Recommended by my friend Kelly (thank you!). A really well-written serial killer book that isn’t so much about the serial killer but about how the killer’s actions affect and alter the trajectory of the lives of a young boy and his friend.
The Wedding People
Alison Espach
Fiction
384 pages
This is one of those quirky books that don’t feel like they would happen in real life but you wish they would! I found it very enjoyable and quite funny at times. One of those “on the surface” funny books that actually have more to say about life than you’d think.
Children of Ruin
Adrian Tchaikovsky
Fiction, Sci-Fi
608 pages
This is the second book in a series, and it continues right where Children of Time left off. In addition to the sentient spiders who have teamed up with the new “Humans,” we have sentient octopi in this book … plus a sentient fungus (?) that makes things difficult to all involved. What an imagination! On to Book 3!
The God of the Woods
Liz Moore
Fiction
496 pages
I kept seeing this book around so I had to try it, and I was glad I did! This is a “child disappears mysteriously just like her brother years ago” book that takes a different type of approach to the story that kept me interested.
Blind Spots: When Medicine Gets It Wrong, and What It Means For Our Health
Marty Makary, MD
Non-Fiction
288 pages
This was a re-read for my book club (and appeared on my 2024 favorites list). An interesting account of different times the medical establishment has been very wrong and yet took ages to acknowledge it. We had a pretty lively discussion at book club that led to many of us vowing to be more engaged and educated health-care consumers.
Table for Two
Amor Towles
451 pages
Fiction, Short Stories
I LOVED Gentleman in Moscow and The Lincoln Highway and liked Rules of Civility. However, this book of short stories (one of which follows Eve from Rules of Civility) was just OK for me. Not sure if it was that short stories just don’t grab me as much or what, but I’m waiting for the next novel now that I’ve read his all his books.
End of Story
A.J. Finn
Fiction
416 pages
I remember really liking The Woman in the Window for some reason, so I thought I’d check this out. It was just meh. The writing was off, and the story was just ridiculous. Not a fan. For a little bit, it was almost a Did Not Finish.
Favorite Books Read In March
If I had to pick my favorites for the month, it would be Just Another Missing Person, All the Colors of the Dark, and The Wedding People.
