For 2025, I want to be more intentional about my reading so I’m setting some basic goals to help me stay on track. I’ll come back at the end of the year to assess how well I did.
Goal 1: Read 52 Books
This is my “go to” reading goal every year as it averages out to one book per week. I usually go over, but I like not having the pressure of reading 100 books. For the past few years, my annual totals have been 94 books (2024), 73 books (2023), and 86 books (2022).
Goal 2: Read 1 Non-Fiction Book Each Month
I like to read non-fiction to educate myself, but it can be a struggle to make myself read something more challenging. Perhaps trying to read at least one per month will help make it easier.
Goal 3: Read 4 Classic Books
I have a tendency to read relatively recent books, so I want to try and overcome this by reading at least 4 classic books this year, which averages out to 1 per quarter. That seems doable, right?
Goal 4: Read 15 New To Me Authors
It is easy to keep going back to authors you enjoy, so I want to make sure I read at least 15 books by authors I’ve never read before.
Goal 5: Write Short Reviews for Every Book Read
I want to make sure I track my reading this year so I’m going to record my reading each month and include short reviews for each one.
